Teaching in Indiana can take you to a hard core industrial city in the northwest of the state, a college town like Lafayette, or to the commercial and financial center in Indianapolis. All are very different municipal environments with school districts that reflect the regional traits.

The State of Indiana is twenty fourth among the fifty states in ranking for teacher salaries. According to a 2009 survey the average teacher salary for Indiana teachers was $49,569.1 The state's biggest school district is in Indianapolis, very much an urban district with an enrollment of 35,500 and a teacher roster of 2,559.
