Georgia Teacher Careers

Atlanta is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and has been the principal financial and commercial center in the Southeast for at least two decades. The economy in Atlanta has driven the state's financial health in general and that is reflected in the relatively high salary scales found in many Georgia school districts. The Georgia Department of Education sets educational policy and provides the curriculum guidelines, but the Georgia Professional Standards Commission is the body responsible for teacher certification and for the development of academic and content knowledge standards that every teaching applicant must meet. The Commission has been active in developing a testing program that meets Georgia's standards, established in 2006 as an alternative to the national programs available.
